Mexico Financial Institution To Build New Facility

A new building is coming to the southwest corner of Green Boulevard and East Liberty Street in Mexico.

First State Community Bank closed on the purchase of the property last week and will be building a new facility in the coming months.

Plans for the new home of the bank in Mexico have not been finalized and no construction timeline has been released.

Murder Trial Underway In 2017 Montgomery County Homicide

A Montgomery County murder trial is now underway in Audrain County on a change of venue.

Michael Humphrey is on trial, accused in the murder of New Florence reptile breeder Ben Renick in 2017.

During testimony today (Monday), jurors brought in from Cape Girardeau County heard results from the autopsy on Ben Renick, including the recovery of five bullets from his body.

Humphrey’s ex-girlfriend and the wife of Ben Renick, Lynlee Renick, is also charged in the murder and her trial begins in December in Boone County on a change of venue.

Mexico Bulldogs Enters Final Week Of Regular Season Number One In District Bracket

The Class 3 District 5 brackets were made available today (Monday) and the Mexico Bulldogs Football Team earned enough points to surge to number one in the bracket.

The Bulldogs will be on the road on Friday night to face Warrenton in the final week of the regular season.

The 2nd ranked team in the bracket the Boonville Pirates will be at home hosting the undefeated Hallsville Indians.

And the 3rd ranked team in the bracket the Blair Oaks Falcons will be on the road at Osage.

The Bulldogs seemingly control their own destiny and if they win at Warrenton on Friday they would secure the number one seed in the bracket and earn a first round bye and would be at home for the District games.

Mexico Public Safety Department Report 10/18/21


Mexico Public Safety reports the arrest of 28 year old Rodney S. Meyers on Friday, September 15th for an Audrain County warrant.

49 year old Christie D. Lynn was arrested this (Monday) morning for an Audrain County warrant.


Mexico Public Safety responded to the following calls for service over the weekend starting on Friday, October 15th:

Driving without a valid license on West Love.

Stealing or theft at the Carson apartment building.

Trespassing at Howell Manor Court.

A stolen vehicle on the corner of North Jefferson and Jackson.

A fraud at the South Clark apartment building.

Public safety responded to these calls on Saturday:

A stolen vehicle at North Washington.

A stealing or theft on Eastholm.

Driving without a valid license at East Liberty.

A careless and imprudent on Oak Lane.

Drug activity in progress on Vance Road and at the North Wade apartment building.

Mexico Public Safety responded to the following calls for service yesterday (Sunday):

A vehicle break-in at the South Clark apartment building.

An intoxicated person driving at 1109 East Liberty.


A 2 car accident with injuries on Saturday, September 16th at 4:30pm on North Washington at Anderson.

According to the accident report it happened when a vehicle driven by 44 year old Helen A. Salcido of Chicago, Illinois failed to stop at the intersection of Anderson and Washington resulting in a collision with a vehicle driven by 49 year old Andre A. Tipton of Mexico.

Three people were listed as injured including Salcido, and two teen passengers.

They were taken to the University Hospital for treatment.

Mexico High School Girls Cross Country Team Earns North Central Missouri Conference Championship

The Mexico High School Girls Cross Country Team earned a North Central Missouri Conference Championship on Saturday in Kirksville.

Individual All Conference results were Kalea Hennebery finishing 5th.

Jordyn Wyman came in 6th.

Sidney Turlington 7th.

Kali Turlington was 14th.

For the boys it was Guy Fairchild finishing 4th and Thomas Puester finishing 5th.

KXEO Sports Report 10/18/21

The Kansas City Chiefs evened their record at 3-3 yesterday (Sunday) with a 31-13 win over the Washington Football Team.

The Chiefs committed 3 turnovers in the first half, that included 2 interceptions from Patrick Mahomes.

In the 2nd half Kansas City turned a 13-10 deficit into a double digit victory.

Mahomes finished the game with 397 yards and 2 touchdowns, on 32 of 47 passing.

The Chiefs remain on the road this week for Sunday’s game against the Tennessee Titans.

The St. Louis Blues will look to go 2-0 tonight (Monday) when they play the Arizona Coyotes.

St. Louis opened their season on Saturday with a 5-3 victory against the Colorado Avalanche.

The Blues continues their 3 game road trip tonight against the Coyotes before wrapping up Wednesday in Vegas.

Fulton Man Charged In Connection To A Shots Fired Incident In Callaway County

A Fulton man is now charged after an arrest in connection to a shooting in Callaway County north of Millersburg on Friday.

According to the Callaway County Sheriff’s Office, deputies went to County Road 256 on Friday afternoon, and were told shots had been fired and someone was hit with the gunfire.

Investigators say the victim received a non-life threatening injury.

Deputies identified the suspect as 26 year old Jerren Harris who had fled the scene.

He was later found hiding at a nearby residence and taken into custody.

Prosecutors charged Harris on Saturday with 2 counts of felony unlawful use of a weapon and domestic assault.

Two People Taken By Helicopter To Hospital With Serious Injuries In Audrain County Accident

Two people were life-flighted to the hospital after a 1 car accident in Audrain County on Saturday night.

According to the Missouri Highway Patrol it happened on Missouri 22 near Audrain Road 898, when the driver lost control while attempting to pass another vehicle at a high rate of speed.

The vehicle went off the road and hit an embankment.

21 year old Lauren Herschbach of Rocheport and 22 year old Johnathan Fowler of Lake Ozark were taken by helicopter to the University Hospital with moderate injuries.

Mexico High School Wrestler Katie Bowen Competing At Missouri Border Brawl

Mexico High School wrestler Katie Bowen will be at the Missouri Border Brawl in St. Charles tomorrow (Sunday).
It takes place at the Boys and Girls Club at 1211 Lindenwood Avenue. It will feature the best youth and high school wrestlers from Missouri vs. the bordering states, along with top ranked wrestlers from across the country.
Representing Team Missouri is Katie Bowen. Under coaches Tony Eierman and Tony Senor, Bowen has a career record of 61-28 for Mexico High School and finished 3rd at the 2021 Missouri State Championships. As a Southern Plains All-American and Fargo qualifier she is no stranger to national competition.
Taking the mat for Team Border is Molly Allen. Under coaches Ivan and Georgi Ivanov, Allen is a three time AAU Girls State Champ. The Iowa native is a USA Nationals Champion and Tulsa Nationals All-American.

Jurors are now selected in the case against a man accused of killing a Montgomery County reptile breeder.

The Mexico Bulldogs Football Team had a huge night at Hawthorne Heights last (Friday) with a 41-14 win against North Central Missouri Conference rival Moberly.

Anthony Shivers reached the end zone 5 times and put up 252 yards rushing. He also intercepted the ball twice.


And Senior Deacon Haag had a special moment on Senior Night. Deacon recovered a blocked punt and ran for 28 yards for a special team touchdown. The Bulldogs will play the regular season finale on the road in Warrenton next week. With a win Mexico could secure a number 1 seed in Districts.

In week 8 of Friday Night Lights of area high school football the Hannibal Pirates (8-0) earned a North Central Missouri Conference Championship defeating Marshall (1-7) 65-0.

Mexico Bulldogs (6-2) had a successful Senior Night taking out Moberly (2-6) 41-14.

Boonville (6-2) over Eldon (2-6) 50-22.

Blair Oaks (6-2) with a 71-34 win against Southern Boone (3-5).

Kirksville (5-3) shut out Fulton (0-7) 20-0.

The Bowling Green Bobcats pushed their record to a perfect 7-0 after defeating South Callaway (4-4) 62-14.

Palmyra (4-4) over South Shelby (2-6) 27-8.

Hallsville improved to 8-0 taking care of California (5-3) 46-6.

Capital City (1-7) loses to Winnetonka (5-3) 47-21.

Macon (4-4) outlasted Centralia (4-4) 28-22.

Jefferson City (4-4) in a shoot out beating Battle (4-3) 55-52.

Rock Bridge (4-4) wins the Providence Bowl over Hickman (2-7) 28-7.

Helias (7-1) 35-3 over Smith Cotton (1-7).

Louisiana (4-4) took care of Wright City (1-6) 26-15.

Mark Twain (7-1) bested North Callaway (4-3) 22-8.

MMA (1-7) was shut out by Crystal City (3-3) 52-0.

Monroe City (7-1) dominated Clark County (1-7) 58-16.

Montgomery County (5-3) handled Van-Far (0-8) 38-8.

Herculaneum (3-5) defeated Paris (1-7) 20-8.

Father Tolton (5-2) beat Cuba (0-8) 33-20.

The 3-3 Missouri Tigers at home today (Saturday) to face the 4-2, 21st ranked Texas A & M Aggies.

The Aggies are coming off a 41-38 win over Alabama last week.

While the Tigers beat North Texas 48-35 last week.

Mizzou has won two of the last three meetings against the Aggies. Kickoff is at 11.

Mexico Football Rolls Moberly On Senior Night

The Mexico Bulldogs defeated the Moberly Spartans 41-14 on Senior Night at Hawthorne Heights.

The Spartans got out to an early 7-0 in the first quarter after going 89 yards on the opening drive.

It was capped off by a 2 yard touchdown run by Darious Wallace.

Mexico would answer back on their 3rd possession of the game in the 2nd quarter with a 33 yard touchdown run by Anthony Shivers.

It was tied at 7 at the 5:14 mark in the 2nd quarter.

Senior Deacon Haag gave the Bulldogs the lead when he recovered a blocked punt and ran into the end zone for the score.

Mexico would take a 14-7 lead into halftime.

Mexico would score 3 times in the third quarter on a 16 yard touchdown from Anthony Shivers.

A 10 yard touchdown run from Shivers.

And a 7 yard touchdown run from Anthony Shivers.

Anthony Shivers would score again in the second half for a total of 5 touchdowns in the game.

He ran for 252 yards and intercepted the ball twice.

Andrew Runge finished with 87 yards rushing.

Jaden Hatfield with with 48 yards on the ground.

And Ty Simms had 43 yards rushing.

Mexico is now 6-2 overall and 3-2 in the North Central Missouri Conference.

Mexico will play the final regular season game on the road next week against the Warrenton Warriors.

Monroe County Accident Injures Mexico Man

A Mexico man is recovering from moderate injuries after an accident in Monroe County just after noon today (Friday).

It happened 3 miles south of Paris on Highway 15 when a vehicle driven by 39-year old Clinton M. Youse of Paris stopped to pull into a private drive and was struck by a vehicle driven by 36-year old Caleb P. Marquette of Mexico.

Marquette was taken to a Columbia hospital for treatment, Youse was not injured according to the Highway Patrol report.
